Welcome to the Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants - one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing medical specialty organizations! AFPPA members are typically physician assistants and nurse practitioners who practice in a primary care field such as Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Occupational Medicine, or a related area. AFPPA members represent all 50 states, and practice in both rural and urban settings. The AFPPA offers unparalleled peer-to-peer continuing medical education (CME) in small group settings at conferences held in exciting and diverse locations across the country. No other organization provides CME for PAs, taught by PAs, with a curriculum that is specifically designed for primary care physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
What is a PA? A physician assistant (PA) is a licensed health care professional who practices medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician.
Typical PA programs last 24 to 32 months, and require a four-year college degree and health care experience prior to admission. Contact the AFPPA for information on AFPPA scholarship and mentoring opportunities, as well as a list of PA programs in your area. What is a NP? A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse who has completed specific advanced nursing education (generally a master's degree or doctoral degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common as well as complex medical conditions. PAs, NPs, other health care professionals and related associates are invited to join AFPPA!
